Twaddle for Tuesday

Thor the god of thunder went riding on his filly.  “I’m Thor!” he cried.  The horse replied, “Then try a thaddle, thilly.”

When I was little, and even now, I loved ridiculous poems and limericks.  Do you?  What’s your favorite?

  1. Thanks for making me smile on a busy morning Princess – this was too much fun. I’ll have to think about a favourite of my own … stay tuned!

  2. In winter I get up at night
    And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?

    – Robert Louis Stevenson

I had a book of poems written for kids when I was younger and this one really resonated. I felt like he really got what it’s like to be a kid and not want to go to bed. Solid classic, but it’s no Twaddle for Tuesday–good one 🙂

    • Aw. Yours is really good, Liz. I love a bit of Robert Louis Stevenson. You know my husband had a limerick competition on his Henry’s World of Booze blog last year. . . The prize was a bottle of Marsala and the winner was a friend’s father who wrote:

      The world famous ‘Singing Koala’
When taking the stage at La Scala
      Made sure that his voice
      The organ of choice
      Was functioning well with Marsala

I thought that was pretty great.
